Visit the Canadian Cemetery in Holten and the 1,394 deep graves with a visit to the information center and a tour by one of our enthusiastic guides.

Warm welcome

In our information center, which has extended opening hours, our hosts and hostesses will be happy to show you around. We host tens of thousands of international visitors each year for information and stories about the cemetery, tours, commemorations and educational programs. The information center brings history up close with exhibits, images and stories hidden behind 1,394 graves and keeps memories alive.

Open tours

During school holidays, we organize open tours on Tuesday afternoons. You can simply join in. If you sign up, we can take your arrival into account. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, is accompanied by an enthusiastic Dutch-speaking guide and starts in our information center. The tour is suitable for children in the highest grades of primary education and all levels and groups in secondary education.

Tailored tour

Would you like to be shown around with your own group by one of our enthusiastic guides? Then we will be happy to organize a customized tour. Using the registration form, you give us an insight into the group and specific interests, and we will respond to the group's experiences and questions.

We organize the tours from Monday to Saturday during the opening hours of our information center.

Lecture on location

Looking for a speaker for your school, company, association or foundation? On request, volunteers from the Information Center provide lectures about the Canadian Cemetery and stories about war and freedom on location. With a presentation, images and stories, we provide an impression on location of what can be discovered in the field and in the information center.

  • Duration: 2 x 45 minutes.
  • Price: €95.00, excluding travel costs (€0.35 per km).

  • Guidance: at least 2 teachers per class, max. 30 students.
  • Price: €2.00 per student (lower limit €35.00).

Continuing Education Tour

  • Duration: 90 minutes.
  • Guidance: at least 2 teachers per class, max. 30 students
  • Price: €4.00 per student (lower limit €50.00).

Continuing Education Project Group (Standard)

  • Price: €4.00 per student and supervisor, costs are charged per project school.

Summer time opening hours: Monday to Sun 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Winter time opening hours: Wednesday to Sun 11:00 - 16:00.
Also open on Mondays and Tuesdays during school holidays.

Expositions

In the information center, you will discover changing exhibitions about the liberation of the Northeast Netherlands, the advance and struggle of the Canadians, their life stories and current themes of war, freedom, and memory.

The exhibitions combine image, sound, personal objects and stories — bringing history closer. We would also like to point out outdoor opportunities, such as our interactive bike tours and the Canadian Liberation Route Trail of which we are a part.

Moments that stay with you

In our guestbook, you will experience the information center through the eyes of visitors, volunteers and relatives. From guided tours and commemorations to meetings and exhibitions: these images show what remembering war and freedom and learning about them means in practice.
