“Even then, I loved coming to this impressive and relaxing place in the woods.”

How and when did you get involved with the information center?

Even before the information center was there, I gave tours of the Canadian Cemetery in Holten. Visitors were curious about the stories behind this impressive resting place for Canadian soldiers. I liked it right away. Didn't know I had it in me. In 2011, the information center on the left side of the cemetery was completed. At the same time, we started the Facebook page, which I still manage. In addition, I became a hostess.

What was your motive?

As a child in primary school, I was already deeply impressed by this beautiful place. We laid flowers there on 4 May, with former fighters and listened to their stories with admiration. The place brought them comfort and the feeling that they could still do something for fallen comrades in WWII. Even then, I loved coming to this impressive and relaxing spot in the woods.

What does a visit to the information center give you?

There you will find information about the liberation operation from D-day onward. It's the life stories that are impressive and make you aware of the tough situation back then. The information center gives your visit to the Canadian Cemetery in Holten in-depth.
