Het levensverhaal van Clifford Augerman

So that we don't forget. 1,394 soldiers are buried at the Canadian Cemetery in Holten. They are committed to our freedom. A family grieves with every stone and a story lies behind each stone. Stories that we want to tell for days to come.

About Clifford Augerman, for example, buried in grave V-A-4. He was born on November 9, 1923, in Merritton, Ontario (Canada) and grew up in a close-knit family. Already at 16e he went to work full-time. In 1943, Clifford swapped his job as a truck driver for a uniform and trained as a driver and mechanic in the Canadian army. From the front lines in Italy, he eventually came to the Netherlands, where he participated in the liberation of the IJssel region as a soldier of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment (LER). Clifford Augerman was one of the many LER victims on April 12, 1945. He died that day, at the age of 21, from his injuries at the Canadian Emergency Hospital in Lochem. His story lives on in the information center next to the cemetery in Holten, where he was reburied after the war.
