Alphonse Laforce's life story.

So that we don't forget. 1,394 soldiers are buried at the Canadian Cemetery in Holten. They are committed to our freedom. With every stone, a family grieves and behind each stone lies a story. Stories that we want to tell for days to come.

About Alphonse Joseph Laforce, for example, buried in grave 2. C. 10. In October 1923, he was born in Alberta, Canada, to a large family. His mother died in 1943, the year Alphonse joined the company. He wanted to become a paratrooper, but proved unfit to do so. After his military training, he was assigned to 'The Loyal Eddies' and cared for the wounded on the battlefield as a nurse/stretcher. The crossing of the IJssel near Gorssel himself killed him. When he took care of a wounded mate, an enemy bullet hit him in the head.
