Hattemer receives high Canadian award

Uit handen van ambassadeur Sabine Nölke van Canada heeft Edwin van der Wolf een hoge Canadese onderscheiding ontvangen.

Edwin van der Wolf has received a high Canadian award from Ambassador Sabine Nölke of Canada. De Hattemer received 'The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers', among other things, for his research work for the Canadian Cemetery Information Center in Holten. During an impressive ceremony at the Canadian ambassador's residence at Villa Groot Haesebroek in Wassenaar, the ambassador emphasized how exceptional it is that someone who does not have Canadian nationality receives this award. A number of family members and guests from Hattem and Holten had traveled to Wassenaar to witness the festive meeting to award the award.

Van der Wolf has been a researcher, guide and desk assistant at the Canadian Cemetery Information Center in Holten since September 2011. In addition, he is chairman of the Hattem Memorial Foundation.

“Edwin van der Wolf devotes his time to honoring Canadian soldiers who died in Europe, especially during the liberation of the Netherlands, and to educating younger generations about the importance of remembrance. He volunteers at the information center at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, where he leads visitors and conducts research,” said Canadian Ambassador Sabine Nölke.
